LOST

LOST was the turning point for what to expect in a tv series. Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof created an alternative reality that has really never been seen on any network until September 22, 2004 on ABC. LOST appealed to a higher demographic audience ranging in ages from eighteen to forty-nine. it pushed the boundaries by leaving you asking questions, unsolved mysteries, love and loss, the battle between good and evil, and the forever nagging question of 'what else is there in life than what we have today.' during it's time on tv LOST and it's creative team had won fifty-seven different awards.

when you get ready to watch this snow be prepared to be sucked in. every episode leaves on a high note begging you for more. the minute you think you know something about a situation or a certain character be prepared to have you mind blown about you will uncover in the future. the only downside from this show is that if you miss one episode you will be totally lost (no pun intended). you meet a lot of people and you need to need to know their entire back story because of the flashbacks/flashfowards.

there are many philosophical, historical, and biblical elements to the show as well. for example a character you will meet is John Locke. in the tv show he appears as the 'all wise and knowing' character that is at one with himself and the island. ironically enough there was also a widely known English philosopher and physician who many considered one of the most influential of "Enlightenment thinkers" and also called the "Father of Liberalism" in the 17th century. Locke's philosophy was that you need to have a sense of consciousness with yourself and the world around you. much like LOST's version of Locke.

the healing powers that the island has is another question that remains unanswered. does the island have "God-like" properties as it healed Locke's legs, Rose's cancer, or Jin's infertility? or is it a place where the sick were shunned, as there is also references to a "sickness" on the island.

*grand finale spoiler*
when you get your bag of popcorn popped and the lights dimmed as you get ready for the grand finale don't have high hopes. all i will say is that you leave you going "huh?!! really?!" i get that the whole time that they're going for mystery and illusion and this whole idea of 'you make your own destiny' but you really had to leave it like that?! what the f*uck are the god damn numbers all about?! the show the entire series plays with your emotions and when you expect to watch a finale you want some sort of resolution. you don't get that here, but that's what the authors were going for.

sit down, relax, turn off the rest of the world, and turn on your television set.
